Brownsville, Texas--An All-America City

Brownsville, TX "On The Border By The Sea" is now on SpotCrime!

Brownsville is located in the southern most tip of Texas, separated from Mexico by the Rio Grande River. Brownsville is also the county seat of Cameron County. The population is almost 140k making it the 15th largest city in Texas and the 129th largest in the US.

During the Civil War, Brownsville was used as a smuggling point for Confederate goods into Mexico. There is now an important pillar of economy located in the city--the Port of Brownsville. The city was declared an All-America city in 2001. In 2004, the city experienced it's first white Christmas and first snow in 109 years, recording 1.5 inches. The snow was even sold on Ebay! Mel Gibson is currently shooting a movie in the city.
