PG County has a population of 834, 560, lies outside of Washington, DC and is the wealthiest county in the nation with an African-American majority.
Recently, there has been much speculation of corruption in the police department with the recent arrests of officers in the department as well as County Executive Jack Johnson and his wife, Leslie Johnson a councilwoman-elect. The Johnson's have been under a corruption investigation and were arrested on charges of tampering and destroying evidence on November 12th of this year.
Releasing information to SpotCrime for all residents to view is a great example of how PG County is now working to increase transparency in their Police Department. SpotCrime is also a great tool for the department to connect with their residents, making residents more aware of what crimes occur locally.
