Here are some resources to keep you and your family safe this summer vacation.  Besides signing up for your local crime alert, check out the tips below:

Summer Travels
Whether you're planning an extravagant trip out of the country or taking a road trip to visit family and friends

  • Check out the US Government website for anything from highway safety to airline rules
  • There are also some great tips here on how to stay safe when traveling abroad including:
    • Don't dress like a tourist!
    • Learn local laws and customs
    • Keeping an eye on your credit and what to bring with you along the lines of money/credit cards/travelers checks (don't become a victim of fraud!)
    • Check SpotCrime or MyLocalCrime for worldwide crime maps

Summer Camps
A great way to get the kids out of the house

  • Make sure you do your research about camps before you send the kids off.  Check out the American Camp Association for more information
  • A good camp will have a written health policy
  • If there is any type of pool or body of water, make sure your child knows the rules!  Drowning is one of the major causes of death in children 1-14 years of age.
  • Check out the crime in the area.

Fourth of July
Celebrate the US, but stay safe while enjoying the holiday.

On the Water

  • Learn the rules of the water ways and make sure to get a boaters license.  They are pretty easy to obtain.  Most states allow teens as young as 14 to obtain a boaters license.
  • If you plan on fishing, crabbing, clamming, etc., make sure to obtain the proper license at your local DNR
  • Let someone know where you plan on boating and bring plenty of life jackets...and don't drink and boat!

Make sure to sign up for your local crime alerts to stay up to date on crime that happens in your area.  Stay Safe!
