Thanks to iCloud.com and websites like Lookout, you're easily able to locate a device if lost or stolen (assuming you've registered your device with the websites) On iCloud, all you have to do to locate a device is click on the 'Find my iPhone' link on the main page and sign in.

When I used iCloud.com to locate my iPad, iCloud pinpointed the house on a Google map where my iPad was hiding.  No worries, I wasn't a victim of an iCrime and I didn't lose my iPad. I was curious to see how accurate iCloud was in locating my device.

Pretty close to where my iPad was hiding!
However, when I tried to locate my MacBook, it was nowhere to be found.  Unfortunately, it looks like a device has to be on and connected to the Internet in order for it to be located.  But, you do have the option to be emailed once the device is found.

Couldn't find my MacBook right away, whomp whomp.

These kinds of location features have proven useful for police and victims of crimes.  In New York, a murder victim's iPhone led police to the killers.  In New Zealand, an iPhone thief swore she didn't possess the stolen phone.  When police used the find my iPhone technique, they found the phone in a shirt she had removed after the theft.

There has been talk about Siri being able to self destruct in future iPhone releases, however, for now, I think we should leave any self destruction to Inspector Gadget and Chief Quimby...
