New Orleans is the location of numerous Mardi Gras celebrations, the French Quarter and Bourbon Street ; ground zero to the hurricane Katrina destruction, the Ninth Ward, and the recent BP oil spill ; home to beignets , numerous spicy and delicious creole recipes , spontaneous street bands, rap superstar Lil Wayne and 2009 Super Bowl Champs New Orleans Saints ( WHO DAT!? )--the list could go on--and the city is now the newest updated map on SpotCrime ! Checking out the SpotCrime NOLA map and local WWL-TV , you'll find that this city is home to their fair share of violence as well. On the main c rime page of WWL-TV , deaths by shootings are included in numerous headlines. It may be settling to read that New Orleans crimes reported to the police department since 2009 have fallen 9% however, it's even more unsettling to learn that the murder rate is at a standstill. At least its not on the rise, but when compared to other US cities across the FBI UCR , New Orleans ranks #1
