Sioux City Open Crime Data is Now on SpotCrime!

Sioux City, IA is located in western Iowa on the Missouri River with a population of about 83k residents. The city is split between two counties - Plymouth and Woodbury - and also borders two states - Nebraska and South Dakota . We started mapping Sioux City after it was brought to our attention that recent shootings spurred an interest in reactivating neighborhood watch groups again. Since SpotCrime is the most visited crime mapping site and we're the only crime mapping site to offer actual maps in our email alerts , we started mapping the city hoping it would help facilitate a connection between the community and police department. Sioux City's level of transparency with public crime data exceeds those of many larger cities in the US. Starting a neighborhood watch may not seem as daunting a task as it sounds. We’ve learned from interaction with our subscribers over the past couple years that all you need are interested and informed neighbors. All it takes is one organized and motivated person to make a community watch successful. In fact, in one community, we’ve encountered one resident forwarding on our SpotCrime email alerts to over 100 neighbors. Amazing! How To Unsubscribe From SpotCrime

SpotCrime users have the ability to unsubscribe from our service right within their email alerts. On the bottom right-hand side of your email alert, there is a link to unsubscribe (see picture below). Click the link, and you will be redirected to the SpotCrime website. You will be asked to confirm your request to unsubscribe by clicking the unsubscribe button. Success! You will get a confirmation message that lets you know that your account is now deactivated. We're sad to see you go, and hope it's not for long. We are constantly working to improve SpotCrime and add more data to our site. We greatly value user feedback as well! Have good ideas for us? Over 30 million Alerts Sent by SpotCrime!

SpotCrime alerts sent have surpassed the 30 million mark!  Thank you for signing up for SpotCrime alerts and all of your feedback, it has helped us reach this stepping stone! Each email alert includes a map of crime and a list of crime details that have occurred around an address specified by a user.   Some alerts include a local sponsor ad, local news station logo and/or a highlighted news story. So, unless there is more than one person at an address signed up for an alert (i.e. apartment or business building), most of the 30 m alerts have all been unique - like a snowflake!  Not signed up for alerts?  Head to SpotCrime or MyLocalCrime to sign up!  Check out this blog post for a step by step process on how to sign up.
