SpotCrime Helps with Your Home Search

Moving soon? Renting or planning to buy? SpotCrime can help! Crime is a big issue that comes to mind when you find yourself in a move. Nobody wants to put themselves or their family in a potentially harmful area or situation.

SpotCrime is the most visited crime mapping site - for good reason. We offer many ways to users to view crime in their area. Here are just a few suggestions to help in your home search.

SpotCrime and MyLocalCrime
Once you’ve found the area you’re interested in moving to, head to SpotCrime or MyLocalCrime (or SpotCrime.info if you're on your mobile) for a quick view of crime in the area. It would be a good idea to check out crime around any shopping centers you would frequent and around any schools your children would attend, too.

Keep in mind that icons like shootings, assaults, robberies, or burglaries are pretty serious crimes to consider when buying or renting a house.

Seeing too much crime? Take into consideration the population of the city. Typically, more people leads to more crimes being committed,

Email Alerts
If you have a specific neighborhood in mind, sign up for SpotCrime email alerts in that area (it's free!). We let you choose up to a 25 mile radius around any address you want, so don’t worry if the area you’re looking at is rather large. Twenty five miles covers a lot!

Date Range Search
If you know what specific city and/or county you're interested in, you can find a specific map you want from a state page listing. Select your state from the drop down menu on the front page of SpotCrime, then select your city, and you'll get a page where you can search by date range, address, crime type, keyword...just make sure you’re signed in first before performing a search!

Crime Details Page
Want to know more about an incident near your dream home? Click on the details page of a crime to view more information provided by the police agency.

We also offer street view on all of the incidents we map on SpotCrime. This is especially helpful when taking peek at the neighbors houses. Bars on windows, abandoned homes, or graffiti everywhere might mean the neighborhood isn’t well taken care of and could be potentially dangerous. More trees in the area can prove to be a deterrent of crime which is shown in the study performed by researchers using SpotCrime historical data for Baltimore.

Neighborhood pages
Once you have a specific neighborhood picked out and if you’re interested in a more detailed view of just that neighborhood, head to SpotCrime’s neighborhood map page. Head to a state page, and below each city, there's a neighborhood link. This link will show you a list of neighborhoods we’ve created for you. Check out the Federal Hill neighborhood crime map here.
