Mapping Crime in Your Favorite Christmas Movie Cities

Tis the season to rank the best Christmas movies! Below are our 10 personal Christmas favorites. And, since we map crime on the reg, we’ve included a crime map for each city the movie takes place.

A Christmas Carol
Bah Humbug!
Ebenezer Scrooge should be arrested for the way he’s treated friends, family, and employees! A great holiday movie to make you realize what Christmas is really about.
Bad Santa
Hey, can I get another drink down here?
This isn’t a very cheery movie, but since the police are very apparent in this black comedy we’ve included it in our list. Billie Bob Thorton is a very, very bad Santa who uses his Santa suit as a way to steal from stores during the holiday season.

The Santa Clause
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! When I get home, I'm getting a CAT scan!
Scott Calvin’s transformation from an average guy to THE Santa Claus gets him arrested on Christmas while delivering presents.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The nerve of those Whos. Inviting me down there - on such short notice! Even if I wanted to go my schedule wouldn't allow it. 4:00, wallow in self pity; 4:30, stare into the abyss; 5:00, solve world hunger, tell no one; 5:30, jazzercize; 6:30, dinner with me - I can't cancel that again; 7:00, wrestle with my self-loathing... I'm booked. Of course, if I bump the loathing to 9, I could still be done in time to lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and slip slowly into madness. But what would I wear?
Whoville isn’t a real place, so we don’t have a screenshot of a crime map for you. However, if the Grinch were real, we definitely think he’d have a hefty record with the local Whoville police.
The movie is based in Whoville (and Mt Crumpit) but the movie was filmed in Universal City, CA
A Christmas Story
You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!
Ralphie’s adventures pre-Christmas day makes you wonder if he’ll end up with a lump of coal in his stocking or if he'll get the Red Ryder BB gun everyone is afraid he'll shoot his eye out with.
The move is set in the fictional Indiana town of Hohman, a fictionalized version of the writer's hometown of Hammond, Indiana

Miracle on 34th Street
I believe... I believe... It's silly, but I believe.
A department store Santa who claims to be the real Santa is arrested and put on trial by the police in this Holiday classic.

Elf
We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.
Buddy the Elf explores NYC to find his real dad. It’s the NYPD who arrest him when he tries to meet his real dad at work at the Empire State Building.

Home Alone
You guys give up yet? Or are you thirsty for more!?
In the movie it’s Chicago police who are called to check on Kevin, who Harry impersonates at the beginning of the movie, who chase Kevin (SHOPLIFTER!) through the park, and who put the Wet Bandits in jail, but in fact the real life McAllister house is located in Winnetka, IL. A small suburb north of Chicago that has it’s own police force.
the move is based in Chicago, IL suburbs; The map is of crime in Winnetka, IL

It’s a Wonderful Life
Look, Daddy. Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.
George Bailey spends his entire life giving up his big dreams for the good of his town, and realizes how much his family loves him after he is visited by an angel when he contemplates suicide on Christmas Eve for losing $8,000 that belongs to his business.
The movie is based in Bedford Falls, NY, but was filmed in Los Angles, CA
Christmas Vacation
Oh, Eddie... If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now.
When cousin Eddie kidnaps Clark’s boss because he almost ruined Christmas by getting rid of holiday bonuses, the police arrive (their SWAT team too!).
The movie is bases somewhere in Chicago, IL, but the house scenes were shot in Burbank, CA
