Why SpotCrime Works

Image
If your city isn't on the map yet, here are some reasons why you should hurry up and send your public crime data over to SpotCrime and why our maps just work: 1. It's free - free to send us data, free to map data , free to send alerts, free to sign up for alerts , free to perform detailed crime searches , free to create a crime listing ... we don't collect a dime from police departments or residents (or any tax dollars) . 2. It's an easy to use map with easily identifiable crime icons.  Our crime maps are made for the people, of the people, by the people - they are not Rube Goldberg machines and we only collect and display public information. And since each crime email alert has a personalized map included, it's super easy to forward your crime alert on to friends and family.  We sent out over 1 million SpotCrime email alerts - just last week!  Even Grandma knows how to work SpotCrime! 3.  We are pretty good at getting information out t...

Harris County, TX Crime Data on SpotCrime!

SpotCrime has recently added Harris County, TX data to the map! Harris County is the fifth largest metro area in the US and holds the city of Houston .  You can view the SpotCrime Houston map here.   It is the most populated county in Texas and the third most populated county in the US! Harris County Sheriff's Office covers all unincorporated areas of the county.  The data from Harris County is from Dec2011-Jan2012.  We are working on collecting more up to date information from the Sheriff's Office in efforts to inform all Harris County residents of crime that occurs in their area. Want to see more Harris County data on SpotCrime ?   Let the Sheriff's Office know! We've found that inquiries from concerned residents go a long way.  And, if they send us data, we will map it and send residents alerts for free! Stay aware, stay safe.

New Milestone for SpotCrime - Over 1 m. alerts in One Week

SpotCrime just sent over 1 million crime alerts this week. A new record for us. That's over 140,000 alerts a day. We'd like to thank our subscribers and our supporters for helping us reach this number. By maintaining our integrity through our financial independence, SpotCrime strives to be the best at delivering timely information to the public through any and all available channels. We'd like to thank every police department that shares data with us and/or makes the data fully public without restrictions or without proprietary systems. Crime mapping is a useful tool to show crime information, but it pales in comparison to full transparency allowing the public and the press to consume, share, and publish crime data without the threat of a lawsuit. We at SpotCrime are proud of not charging any police department for our service, not billing the public for access and not taking any state or federal funds. And yet, in five short years we've become the most visited...
